Education is not only carried out in schools; Families also play a crucial role in organizing homeschooling. Therefore, there needs to be cooperation and alignment of educational programs between educational institutions, families and the community as the three educational centers in building an educational ecosystem to nurture the character and culture of achievement of the students.
To further solidify the importance of family participation in educational institutions, the Family Education Development Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Culture, through the Parent Education subdirectorate, organized a Family Education Seminar.
This event, in which educational institutions, actively engaged parent associations and the community participate, serves as a new means to encourage active communication with parents.
Klaten Regency, Central Java, came the first position for the Family Education Seminar event. The event was divided into two sessions. The first session on Monday(10/16/2017) included actors from high seminaries, high seminaries and vocational seminaries. In the coming session on Tuesday(10/17/2017) actors from early nonage education and primary seminaries shared.
According to Suradi, S.Sos., M.Sc., Head of Learning Assistance Section in the Parent Education sub-directorate of the Family Education Development Directorate, the purpose of organizing the Family Education Seminar is to evaluate the scope of parent education. Participation in educational institutions related to family education programs.
“The Family Education Development Directorate has four main programs, including meetings with classroom teachers, parenting classes, inspirational classes, end-of-year class presentations and other relevant activities. We want to collect more information about the participation of parents in these four programs, if they are running smoothly in educational institutions,” explained Suradi during the opening of the seminar held at Pendopo Soeboer, PKBM Dewi Fortuna, Klaten, Central Java, Monday (10/16/2017).
In addition to discussing participation, seminar participants were also asked for information about positive parenting practices taking place at home. This will serve as an assessment of what positive habits parents have instilled and what parents need in their children’s education.
During the event, seminar participants also received parenting materials related to positive parenting and educating children in the digital age.
According to Tridoyo, chairman of the Family Education Task Force of the Klaten Education Office, the implementation of Family Education in Klaten Regency has begun to expand in several educational institutions.
Parents’ awareness of the importance of school participation is also being well socialized. “The guests here are school associations that are already active. Communication between parents and schools is also going well. We hope that the parents who attend here can help spread this information and also practice positive habits at home with their children,” said Tridoyo, who was present during the inauguration.
Tridoyo also reminded parents not to always think negatively about schools when asked to participate in school activities. “Calling parents to school is not just about contributions or money-related matters. If there are problems related to parenting methods and teaching children at home, parents can come to school to consult with parents. guidance and counseling teachers. Please share this information with other parents,” Tridoyo emphasized.
Regarding positive habits at home, from the discussions during the seminar, most parents have implemented positive habits for their children, including doing homework together, etiquette at home and in the community, participating in social activities, having discussions, helping children in learning. , and much more. Hopefully these habits will continue and inspire other parents as well. After Klaten Regency, the Family Education Seminar will also be held in Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan from Thursday to Friday (10/19 and 20/2017).
